Calendar Update – March Madness Incoming For 2025

Announcement of the Pool Calendar for March 2025

We are excited to announce the dates and venues for our pool calendar in March 2025, with one final announcement to follow for the 2025 Apollo Projects NZ Age Group Swimming Championships in the coming days.

Following the announcement of the Competition Review findings in May, the calendar has been finalised to align with the timing of competitions as outlined recommendation 2. In this case, the Apollo Projects Junior Festivals will be held on the weekend of 7 - 9 March (each zone varies slightly to accommodate suitability) in early March at the end of the summer season.

Likewise, the 2025 Apollo Projects Division II Swimming Competition will now be hosted prior to the 2025 Apollo Projects NZ Age Group Swimming Championships. The competition will be held from 21 - 23 March across 5 sessions, as outlined in recommendation 7, at the Sir Owen G Glenn National Aquatic Centre.

Swimming NZ’s Head of Participation, Competitions & Engagement, Dale Johnson, believes there is a good spread of competitions across the country.

"We have tried to provide a spread of competitions across the country as we completed the calendar for 2025. It's great to be taking some of these competitions to facilities that we haven't been to for a while and provide opportunities closer to home for some that have travelled consistently."

Johnson noted hosting that the Apollo Projects Division II Swimming Competition was deliberately planned for a major hub in the North Island.

"We did work with our local regions and venues to explore the opportunity of hosting this competition in the South Island. Unfortunately, the capacity of this competition restricted this from being a viable option so we have made a conscious effort to host in a major hub to reduce costs for those who need to travel. This was a factor that has been weighed up across finalising the whole calendar."

Johnson also took the opportunity to thank those involved in confirming these dates.

“Thanks to our regions for working together to help us confirm the calendar. They have played an important role in helping to align the calendar with the recommendations of the Competition Review.”

The criteria for each of these competitions (eg: information book, schedule and qualifying times) will be released in late September 2024. The dates and venue for the 2025 Apollo Projects NZ Age Group Swimming Championships will be confirmed in the following days.
